Duties and Functions of the Department |
- Day to day administration of the Department
- Control and Maintenance of high standard of Nursing and Midwifery Practice
- Conduct of preliminary inspection of proposed schools of Nursing, Midwifery, Psychiatry or any similar Nursing training institutions and hospitals prior to Nursing Council final inspection and approval
- Enforcement of discipline within the profession
- Responsible for enquiry/investigation of cases of professional misconduct, malpractice, negligence or contravention of instruction given by the Nursing Council
- Monitor/Inspect the activities of approved training institutions and hospitals within the State
- Inpect Nursing care activities in hospitals
- Continuing education and refresher courses for Nurses and Midwives
- Ensure that Nurses/Midwives practice with current licences
- Act as Liason between the Government and the Nurses/Midwives, Nursing Council and the National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives
- Formulate and implement Government policies as it affects Nurses/Midwives
- Sale of entrance forms and conduct entrance examination into schools of Nursing and Midwifery in the State
- Is in charge of admissions and training of student Nurses and Midwives in the State
- Carry out research into the needs of Nursing and Midwifery with a view to determining ways of improving Nursing and Midwifery education and practice
- Coordinate and supervise Nursing and Midwifery Council final qualifying examinations for Nursing, Midwifery, Psychiatry and Public Health Nursing |
